Our Story
☕ Founder’s Story
Joe by the Pound was born from the passion of its founder, Marcel Townsel, a Chicago native whose journey has been as bold and rich as the coffee he creates. From serving in the U.S. Army to earning a doctorate in education, Marcel has dedicated his life to service, leadership, and inspiring the next generation. Yet through it all, one constant has always remained—his love of coffee.
Marcel’s fascination with coffee runs deeper than the morning cup. He sources beans from around the world—Cuba, Ethiopia, India, and beyond—grinding them into unique blends that tell a story with every sip. Each bag of Joe by the Pound is crafted with intention, infused with culture, and made with love.
When he isn’t roasting or experimenting with new flavor infusions, Marcel is working on leadership curriculums, mentoring future leaders, or even honing his skills as a suit tailor in the making. Just like coffee, Marcel believes leadership, craftsmanship, and love take time, patience, and care.
